Hidden Gems, in the Algarve
Restaurant Edition
I’m not a restaurant reviewer, but I love giving recommendations and trying new places. Funnily enough, whenever I am at home, I eat the exact same food almost everyday, maybe that’s why I love going out for food…
Here is the beginning of my list; I’m adding to it as I go on, and tried to focus on the smaller lesser known places…
Oliwander's, Loulé
Oliwander’s is a rooftop restaurant with contemporary Mediterranean food; lots of light tapas dishes. The views of the castle and setting of this place is what makes it feel so magical.
11 da Villa, Loulé
Another Tapas style restaurant, with larger portions too. Beautiful exposed brick interiors and relaxed setting.
Tasca Da Luz, Monte Seco
Tasca Da Luz, is mainly open for dinner during the week, and lunch on the weekends. Set with beautiful modern interiors, serving Pizza and meat and fish dishes.
Restaurante Taberna by Lucia, Almancil
On one of the main streets in Almancil, and maybe somewhere you would walk past without knowing. Lucia presents an array of local Algarvian dishes and snacks. If you are wanting to experience local food, this one is a must. Open for lunch and dinner.
Restaurante Malveiro, Vale De Éguas
A family run restaurant, that has a long history and special relationship with it’s customers, who always come back; especially for the fish curry. The food was very very good.
Los Locos, Faro
Only open for dinner, this hidden restaurant is hidden in one of Faro’s alley ways. Amazing food, and a casual yet modern setting.
Chá Chá Chá, Olhao
Mediterranean style food, mix of meats and seafood. Open for Lunch and dinner, as tables sprawl out to onto the Portuguese calçada.
Social, Quateria
Social is a wine bar that sells tapas and small plates. It is one of the places the locals go to, because it is friendly, affordable and consistent in it’s quality.
