My Algarve Life

Here is a Mini Guide on Aljezur; what to do, where to eat, drink and sleep.

Mini Guide of What to do, where to eat and drink in Aljezur Algarve Portugal.

Aljezur.

I love Aljezur. As an Australian, it reminds me of Byron Bay, but about 20 year ago, before it was heavily commercialised. Aljezur is a Municipality in western Algarve, set within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Expect forrest, quiet towns, dramatic cliffs and surf beaches. As like all of Portugal, there is a rich Moorish history in which a Historic Moorish Castle remains, as well as an abundance of sweet potatoes (batata doce).

While Aljezur town is the main hub, other notable villages and beach areas within the municipality include Odeceixe, Arrifana, Praia da Amoreira, Monte Clérigo, and Praia do Amado.

Aljezur is approximately 110 km from Faro Airport and roughly 250 km from Lisbon. The region is sparse, and offers a relaxed, less commercialized Algarve experience. As such, it naturally draws surfers, hikers, and nature lovers in search of rugged landscapes, local culture, and those searching for a slower pace of life.
