Algarve Beach Guide
My Algarve Life
Your free guide to exploring some of the worlds most beautiful beaches.
I am from Australia, so I have pretty high standards for beaches. And that is one of the reasons I love Portugal so much, is it has world class beaches, but better than Australia, as it won’t have as many bugs and animals that can kill you….. IYKYK.
I’m not claiming to be a beach expert, but hope this guide is helpful to some. I’ve categorized it by ”vibe”. ..But tell me, what do you think I missed?
Beaches for walks, rock formations or exploring:
Amazing coastline from Caroveiro up to Lagos
Praia da Marinha
Praia do Camilo
Praia da Rocha
Praia da Dona Ana
Praia dos três irmãos
Beaches with the Clearest water:
The islands - Ilha Deserta, Praia da Ilha de Tavira, Armona Island, Farol and Culatra island.
Hot tip……
Best way to get to the islands, is by ferry, taxi or private boat. If you are going off season, make sure you check the timetable is up to date!
Laid back, alternative or surfer vibes:
Anything along the coast of Aljezur.
Praia de Arrifana, Bordeira's beach, Castelejo Beach,
Praia de Odeceixe and
Praia do Martinhal in Sagres
Calm Waves, or Family Beaches
Praia da Fuseta, Praia do Barril (has a mini train you can catch), Praia da Iha de Tavira, Praia Grande de Ferragudo. Praia do Martinhal in Sagres is great too, and the Martinhal is a very family friendly resort. In the “golden triangle region” (coast from Quinta do Lago to Vilamoura), the beaches are very family friendly too, as they often have bathrooms, restaurants nearby and greater accessibility for prams.
