Markets in the Algarve, Portugal.
My Algarve Life
Your free guide to exploring The Algarve’s Farmer and artesiano Markets.
Whenever I have visitors coming to stay, I always take them to, or suggest a market. Maybe because my favourite thing about travelling is doing the same thing. Or maybe because they are that good…. That being said, I have still struggled to find out what day, and when they are on, so I searched as much as I could before I got bored (days, hours, or maybe was just a few mins), and wrote a list.
This is not a definitive list, and I’ve most probably missed something. Not claiming to be a perfectionist, but I hope this list is helpful to someone.
Markets in the Algarve
Most markets open early and close by 12 or 2pm.
There are probably way more smaller markets that
I haven't discovered yet that I will do another post on. As well as the flea and vintage markets!
1) Loulé Market - Mercado Loulé has small market everyday, larger market on Saturday mormings. This is probably my favourite one, as Loule is beautiful. Be warned it gets quite busy on Saturdays during the warmer months!
2) Quarteira market - Mercado Quarteira has has a daily fish market and a small fruit and veg one, just by the beach. There is a much larger market on Wednesdays in the carpark just off the main street. Its next to the
"Cadillac bar". On the first Saturday of the month the is a Flea market too.
3) Taveira Market - Mercado Tavira is open every day except Sundays (I think..). Saturday is a bigger market. Every 4th Saturday of the month, they have flea and vintage markets, in the large space next to the Mercado.
4) Lagos market - Mercado Lagos, is open every day, except Sundays. They have a really nice rooftop too. Like other markets, the Saturday one
is bigger. Lagos flea market is in the Municipal Sports Hall car park on the 1st Sunday of the month.
5) Silves Market - Mercado de Silves. Silves is a beautiful old town with a Castle. It's market is open Monday to Saturday from 6.30 am to 3 pm.
6) Portimão Mercado - located near the old town, Portimão market is open Monday - Saturday 8am - 2pm, with a larger market on Saturday as usual.
The flea market is held on 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month
(from 8:30am to 12:30pm), in Parque de Feiras e Exposições de Portimão.
Hot tip……
The markets start early and might finish before the published end time. So save your sleep in and slow morning for another day.
